In-Depth Information
Born in Córdoba in the early 1940s, cuarteto is Argentina's original pop music. Despised by the
middle and upper classes for its arresting rhythm and offbeat musical pattern (called the ' tunga-
tunga '), as well as for its working-class lyrics, it's definitely music from the margins. Although
definitively cordobés (from Córdoba), it's played in working-class bars, dance halls and stadiums
throughout the country.
