For a city with such an illustrious cinematic history, St Petersburg has relatively few
cinemas, and sadly nearly all foreign films are dubbed into Russian (and often poorly
at that). Yet subtitled films are occasionally shown; check the

current listings. Also, there are several foreign film festivals run by cultural centres
such as the Alliance Française, Goethe Institute and British Council, with films often
shown in the original language.
