Quite frankly, this is where
you want to be if you have
the chance. Everything is
here, right on your doorstep,
and it takes a maximum of 20
minutes to get anywhere
within this neighbourhood on
foot.
Accommodation here can
be more expensive.
Historic Heart
Equally in the thick of things
as the Historic Heart, this
happening part of town
around the lower half of
Nevsky Pr is home to much
of St Petersburg's youth cul-
ture and artistic life.
Smolny, in particular, can
feel surprisingly remote
from the rest of the city due
to bad transport links and
its own backwater ambien-
ce.

Vosstaniya
Far quieter and less busy
than the Historic Heart, while
still definitely historic and
central itself. Great for ac-
cess to the Mariinsky
Theatre.
Distances on foot can be
very long, especially if
you're staying in Kolomna,
where there's no metro.
Sennaya &
Kolomna
If you're not near the metro,
you will feel very isolated
out here. If you are looking
to party in St Petersburg
during the summer months,
this is not a good option as
the bridges rise at night.
A very pleasant residential
area. Very well connected to
the rest of the city as long as
you're within easy walking
distance of one of the two
metro stations here.
