entire day. Pushkin is understandably the big hitter with plenty of tour groups and
crowds thanks to the beautiful Tsarskoe Selo ('the tsar's village') complex, which
contains the staggeringly impressive Catherine Palace and sumptuous grounds.
Pavlovsk, just a short bus ride away, is far less visited and much quieter as a result,
but its grounds are arguably even lovelier and make for a perfect place to get lost in.

Top Tip
At the Catherine Palace, if you're not in a group, start lining up in good time for the
individual visiting slots which run from noon to 2pm and 4pm to 5pm, otherwise you
may miss your chance to go inside.
Getting There & Away
Marshrutka
To get to Pushkin and Pavlovsk, take
marshrutka
286, 299, 342 or
K545 from outside Moskovskaya metro station. Take the station exit marked 'Buses
for the airport'. The buses stop regularly here and go to both Pushkin (R30) and
Pavlovsk (R32).
Train
Suburban trains run from Vitebsk Station (Vitebsky vokzal) in St Petersburg,
but they're infrequent except for weekends. For Pushkin get off at Detskoe Selo (
Детское село ; R42, 30 minutes) and for Pavlovsk (R55, 40 minutes) at Pavlovsk Sta-
tion ( Павловск ).
