Sleeping
St Petersburg has seen an explosion of hotels in recent years and now everything from
great hostels to international luxury hotel brands can be found easily. However, if you
are travelling in summer (particularly during the White Nights) you'll need to book
several months in advance to get the best possible deal.
Hostels are now very plentiful in the city, although standards can vary hugely
between them. Even though most have rules about noise, they can still be loud, com-
munal experiences.
Mini-hotels are a local speciality - usually housed in old apartments with fewer
than six rooms - and can be charming and great value.
