RUSSIAN
SSIAN
NA RECHKE €€€
)
'On the River' is the latest outpost of the ever-growing Ginza Project res-
taurant group and it makes for a great lunch place if you're spending a lazy day on the
Kirovsky Islands. Housed in a rather strange, somewhat cobbled-together looking
place overlooking the river, inside it's a charming lounge-style restaurant with a big
terrace serving up superb Russian home cooking, with (perhaps unsurprisingly) a
heavy focus on fish.
RUSSIAN
SSIAN
NA ZDOROVIE! €€
Bolshoy pr 13; mains R400-600; Sportivnaya; )
This playful restaurant's decor draws
on pre- and post-revolutionary folklore, allowing you to eat like 'the tsars and the
Soviet dictators'. The menu is made up of old Russian recipes that have been recre-
ated here, including veal stuffed with cherries, and perch served with cheese, lemon
and dill. It's definitely a place to try some more unusual Russian dishes in a
very
Rus-
sian setting.
