THE GAY SOUTH
While the main gay bars and clubs, Central Station ( CLICK HERE ), Golubaya
Ustritsa ( CLICK HERE ) and The Club ( CLICK HERE ) are all in the city centre,
two further fun establishments (admittedly rather off the beaten path) are well
worth the effort of getting to, especially if you're looking for St Petersburg's small
lesbian scene.
3L ( www.triel.spb.ru ; Moskovsky pr 107-9; cover R300; 10pm-5.30am Wed & Fri-Sun;
Moskovskiye Vorota) is St Petersburg's best-known lesbian club and has been
running for over a decade now. It has recently moved south from the city centre
and is now looking better than ever. Run in general as a female-only space, men
are welcome with girls, but the cover for men is exorbitant (R800 when we
dropped by!).
A more mixed space is right next door in the same courtyard: Malevich
( www.malevich-club.ru ; Moskovsky pr 107-9; cover free-R300; 11pm-6am Wed & Fri-
Sun; Moskovskiye Vorota; ) is a fun, mixed and laid-back cafe-cum-club (it's
open as a cafe and social space 6pm to 11pm Wednesday to Sunday too) with a
community spirit - art exhibits, social groups and other events are regularly held
in the early evenings - but after 11pm it's all about drinking and dancing. Both
clubs are right next to the metro station in the courtyard of Moskovsky pr 107-9.
