This extraordinary place has rather changed everything for shopping in St
Petersburg - there are probably more shops inside than there are elsewhere in the en-
tire city centre. Spread over five floors, with around 300 shops (including H&M, Gap,
Marks & Spencer and Zara), a multiscreen cinema, bowling alley, food hall and an
enormous and excellently stocked supermaket, Okey, this really is a one-stop shop for
pretty much all your shopping needs.

Not nearly as big as Galeria on the other side of Pl Vosstaniya,
Nevsky Centre is perhaps slightly more glamorous and upmarket. It houses some 70
shops over seven floors, including the city's largest department store, Stockmann,
which includes the fabulous basement Stockmann supermarket, by far the best-
stocked in the entire city. Elsewhere there's a food court and lots of independent fash-
ion and furnishing stores.

Walking into this centre from the chaotic street outside
you'll be forgiven for thinking you've passed through a portal to another world. Over
100 stores sell designer clothing, imported food products and other fancy stuff. Shop-
pers linger at sushi bars and coffee shops, though many come here for the basement
from fresh pasta and Italian pesto to a reasonably priced bottle of Sancerre.
