Zoccolo, in its urgently
orange and green underground space near pl Vosstaniya, has slowly become another
institution of St Petersburg's music scene. With a great atmosphere and an interesting
line-up of music (indie rock, 'progressive grunge', klezmer, 'ethno-electronica' and
numerous other styles you may or may not have heard of), it's easy to see why. Entry
is free before 5pm, when the venue functions as an arty cafe.

Another popular and cool bar, live music venue and club
in the enormous courtyard of Ligovsky 50, Dusche is owned by members of two loc-
ally famous groups, Leningrad and Spitfire. Here you'll find nightly DJs, live music
as well as a laid-back party atmosphere and the occasional art show or drama per-
formance. To find it, go through the arch into the courtyard, take the first left, then
turn right, and Dusche is on your left.

PETROVICH
club-restaurant, Petrovich, a long-running Moscow institution that has finally found
its way to St Petersburg, is actually more of a music and dancing venue. The ex-
traordinary place is crammed with Soviet paraphernalia and while it's a fun and
quirky place to come for a meal (mains R350 to R850), the best reason to come is to
hear the nightly live music (usually Soviet songs) and join in the fun. Saturdays is a
Soviet dance night with obligatory participation - you have been warned!
