At the Moyka River look northwest for a wonderful view of the Neva; to the
south is Bartolomeo Rastrelli's lavish Stroganov Palace . Head north along
nab reki Moyki to No 12, the final residence of Russia's most celebrated poet
and now the
Pushkin Flat-Museum .
Konyushennaya pl is dominated by crumbling 18th-century court stables.
Formerly the imperial guard parade grounds Mars Field became a burial
ground for revolution and civil war victims. South is the shady canal-side
Mikhailovsky Gardens and southeast the unusual
Mikhailovsky Castle ,
part of the Russian Museum.
Near the intersection of the Moyka and Kanal Griboyedova,
Teatralny most
gives a spectacular perspective on the
Church on the Spilled Blood .
Centred on a stoic statue of Pushkin , pretty pl Iskusstv (Arts Sq) is
ringed by celebrated cultural institutions, including the
Russian Museum

Nevsky pr and this canal is a landmark. The old
Singer
Building provides a whimsical contrast to the formidable
Kazan Cathedral

Bankovsky most is the city's most picturesque and pho-
tographed bridge.
Crowds pour out of the metro station at Gostiny Dvor , the 18th-century
trading arcade still serving shoppers. The National Library of Russia, Alexandrin-
sky Theatre and Anichkov Palace surround pl Ostro-vskogo (Ostrovsky
Sq), named for the playwright. Beyond the square on Nevsky pr the elaborate
Anichkov most , flanked by rearing horses, crosses the Fontanka.
