In-Depth Information
Small-scale livestock farmers have known that a number of indigenous trees
are good sources of fodder, but animal scientists have given little attention to
these trees as sources of fodder. There is need to correct this situation as more and
more attention is being given to zero-grazing and nutrient-recycling production
systems. In a free-range livestock system great heed should be given to these
indigenous trees as they are not destroyed by the livestock and are moreover fire
resistant.
The four indigenous trees studied must be considered for use in improving
and maintaining the fertility status and hence the productivity of Ghanaian
savanna soils.
