competition between crops and trees, and to achieve the desired form of the tree,
e.g. rafter poles, timber, etc. Bushfire prevention measures are at times put in
place. Various protective cages, ranging from wooden to metal, are employed to
discourage livestock from trampling on young saplings. In some cases, livestock
faeces and urine are sprinkled on trees to ward off browsing livestock such as
goats and cattle.
Conclusion
Ghana abounds in traditional agroforestry systems that show great biodiversity.
A challenge is to develop them in ways that ensure food security while conserving
the biodiversity.
