In Patagonia, glaciers slide down the Andes and feed lakes like massive Lago Ar-
gentino, which covers more than 550 square miles in southern Argentina , very
near the border with Chile . The tail end of the Perito Moreno Glacier, on the left, is
about three miles long and constantly sliding down that slope, loudly plopping huge
shards of ice into the water and tinting it whitish-green with powdered rock.
