It's a plane *
* Actually, nine of them: the Snowbirds, Canada's military aerobatic team, wondered
if they were visible from space. I was doubtful, but we set up a time when they'd be
practicing near Comox, British Columbia , flying abreast to create the maximum
trail. I woke in the middle of the night (the ISS is on Greenwich Mean Time) to see
this line being drawn on the sky. It was magical—usually, Earth looks like a still life.
And evocative: I've flown an F-86 on the Snowbirds' wing, so I knew exactly how
they felt holding formation as they made that turn.
