It is obvious that data bootstrapping and migration are sub-projects in their own
right within the overall project organisation. Figure
6.1
shows a possible structure.
6.2 Migration Systematics
The migration systematics can be seen from Fig.
6.2
.
The task can vary in complexity and effort. When changing the data model
additional aspects come into play as compared to a simple functional change within
a release. This means that a comprehensive concept for migration has to be drawn
up and documented as a kind of functional specification. This concept has to be
agreed upon by all parties concerned:
• Business units
•IT
• Overall project management
• Sub-project “Migration”.
The document is based on the following gross structure:
• Functional and technical background of the migration
• Initial data base in structure and content
• Target data base in structure and content
• Sequence of technical migration steps including fall back scenarios.
