In-Depth Information
When this model is imported in Lumion, we can add at least nine materials and
as you can see, the materials used during the modeling process don't need to be
anything special. The Wood material, for example, is just a basic texture from
SketchUp; the Water material is a solid color, and the same happens with the Glass
material. Later, we may need to perform some rearrangements on the materials
imported from the 3D again and reload the Lumion file. How can we do this?
In the previous chapter, we saw that we can reload a 3D model and keep the
materials assigned to the surfaces. So, what we have to do is get back to the original
file, add an additional material, and export the 3D model again. Then, in Lumion, we
will use the Reload model and re-apply the material's button to reload the 3D model.
If you need help with this, have a look at the Update a 3D model with new geometry
section in Chapter 3 , Importing 3D Models .
Assigning materials to a 3D model
To start assigning materials to a 3D model, turn your attention to the left-hand side,
where we can find the four main menus in Lumion. The menu we need is the Import
menu and after selecting this menu, the next button we need to click is the Edit
Materials button. The next step is to select the 3D model with the left mouse button;
when we put the mouse over the 3D model, Lumion highlights the 3D model, as
shown in the following screenshot:
