In-Depth Information
Lumion will think for a while and then show the updated 3D model in the same
position and with the same materials. However, this might not work in your case
due to the nature of the changes you made. For example, if for some reason we
changed the name of the material (although for us, it is the same material with a
different name), to Lumion, this is a new material.
Sometimes, we have to work at an earlier stage of the project, such as the
concept-designing stage. In this stage, there are a lot of changes, and some things
that were removed at an earlier stage can be back in another revision. As a safety net,
it is a good habit to save the old files, along with a text file, with a small description
for each file. Later on, when a detail is back again, we don't need to open every single
file to check where the detail is. There is a second option to replace a 3D model.
Replacing 3D models
There is a second way to replace a 3D model in Lumion, and this is especially useful
when we don't want to overwrite the file with the changes, but instead, use a new
file. When we need to use a new file with the updates, we cannot use the feature
mentioned in the previous section. What we need is a way to pick a new file and at
the same time avoid losing all the changes made, which can include materials. How
can we tackle this issue?
In the previous section, we saw how to reload the same file with the changes, and if
we follow the steps mentioned, let's stop before pressing the Reload model and re
apply materials button. Instead, press and hold the Ctrl key and notice how a new
button called Reload model appears and reapply materials new file, as shown in the
following screenshot:
