In-Depth Information
Although it is possible to place and relocate a 3D model, in some situations, we
need to be very specific, and the control we have with the mouse is not enough.
Is it possible in Lumion to control 3D models accurately?
Placing any 3D model accurately
So far, we have been using the mouse to place a 3D model in a relative way, and nine
out of ten times, this is not a problem. In any case, we are more focused on producing
beautiful still images or movies than producing 100 percent accurate representations.
This is true in small projects, but when we need to work on a massive project with
a team, we have to introduce a little more accuracy. Why? Usually, each member
works on a specific area, and if everyone uses the correct coordinates, we can pick
the work of each one and combine them to create a big master plan.
How can we work with these coordinates? Let's have a look at the
following diagram:
The previous diagram shows how the coordinate system works in Lumion. The
center of the universe in Lumion is the point in which x = 0, y = 0, and z = 0. How do
we know which axis we are looking at? It is almost universal that the x axis is red,
the y axis is green, and the z axis is blue. Usually, the z axis is the up axis; this means
that to go up or down, we use the z axis, but this is not true in Lumion. In Lumion,
the up axis is the y axis.
