In-Depth Information
The following screenshot helps understand how this effect works:
After selecting the Relection effect, we need to click on the button with the pencil.
This will get us back to the Build mode where we need to select a Standard or a
Glass material to add a plane. After adding a reflection plane to a glass surface,
we have to click on the Back button and the difference between the default
Lumion's default reflections and the reflections obtained by the Relection effect is
immediately noticeable.
Great, so let's add reflections to all the surfaces! This is when we receive the bad
news and the bad news is that we can only add 10 reflection planes in each scene.
Even so, we need to use these reflection planes with prudence and wisdom. The
reason is because every time we have a reflection plane, the entire scene is mirrored
to produce those nice reflections. Now, imagine your scene mirrored 10 times and it
will start feeling the massive impact on the performance of the viewport and not to
mention the increase of render time.
How can we tackle this problem? By planning carefully where we need good
reflections, by using surfaces with a low polygon count, and by tweaking the
materials the best way possible.
Due to Lumion's limitations, we cannot add this reflection plane to
elements such as the ocean, water surface, grass, and other special elements.
