In-Depth Information
As you can see, the concept of this effect is simple and intuitive. The first step is to
select an approximate location where the building is located and for this, we have
to use the following:
The right mouse button : Click and drag to orbit around the globe
The mouse wheel : This is used to zoom in and out to be more accurate when
selecting the location
The left mouse button : This is used to select the location
This is the most intuitive and direct way to pinpoint the location of the building,
but if we need to be very accurate, there is the possibility to use the latitude and
longitude values.
To help you get the exact location of the building, refer to

The rest of the settings are self-explanatory and the beauty of using these settings
is that one can create a time lapse movie, but that is something we will see further
in this topic. So, for now, just tweak the settings according to what you need. Try
different values to see which one produces the most pleasing and eye-catching look.
You may wonder what the Daylight saving setting is. The
daylight saving time is the time that is adjusted to achieve
longer evening daylight in summer by setting the clocks
an hour ahead of the standard time. This gives us the
opportunity to make better use of daylight, although not
all the countries follow this rule.
Now, that we took care of the sun, there is something else that could be tweaked
and most of the times, we don't even realize how important they are. We are talking
about shadows.
Tweaking shadows using the Shadow
effect
Shadows are an essential element to create a believable environment and if you
don't understand why, just try to press the F1 key and see your scene without any
shadows. Without shadows, our scene becomes very dull and lifeless and this shows
why shadows are such a vital element of our scene.
