Creating grass and using the Scatter
elements
Since Lumion 4, we have the possibility to easily add grass to the terrain. However,
this can be a double-edge sword because on one hand, we can add grass, but the
downside is that the grass is created in the entire terrain. This is not useful, when
we have an urban environment and the grass is constrained to specific areas. So,
how can we solve this issue and where can we find this fantastic grass?
The Grass menu can be found under the Landscape menu, as shown in the
following screenshot:
As we can see, adding grass is as easy as a click on a button. We need to tweak some
settings to get the desired result by tweaking the grass size, height, and wildness.
However, Lumion gives an extra detail to the scene, by giving us the opportunity to
scatter flowers, leaves, small plants, and rocks all over the place. This in turn gives
us the freedom of creating a perfect lawn or a wild field. However, what happens in
areas that we don't want the grass? There are two ways we can tackle this issue:
• The first solution and perhaps the best one is by creating a 3D terrain with
the roads, sidewalks, and green areas. Then, we need to assign the Landscape
material and voilà, we have grass where we need.
