In-Depth Information
However, there is an aspect that needs to be kept in mind all the time to tweak and
control the 3D models in a project. This was addressed in the Controlling 3D models
section in Chapter 1 , Getting Ready for Lumion 3D . The example used in this section,
with two trees and one car, showed that if we have the Nature category selected,
we cannot select and control the car.
This is something that is crucial and if you are new to Lumion, it is perfectly normal
that on the first few tries, you will get frustrated because you cannot select the 3D
model. This may sound annoying, but in truth, this is a way Lumion helps us in not
becoming overweight and confused when trying to select a 3D model by providing
a narrow control.
With this in mind, the next section will show a few tricks and techniques that are
useful with Lumion's models and techniques. This will help to improve the way we
work with the 3D models and fully master this stage in the production.
Controlling the models
So, in what ways can we control a 3D model? Let's stop for a moment and think
of one of the most important actions we can perform in almost any software:
copy and paste. This is something indispensable for a smooth workflow that
saves time.
Copying 3D models
Previously, we saw a way to copy and paste materials, but with 3D models,
Lumion works a little bit differently. To copy a 3D model, we have to first select
the Move object tool by clicking on the button or by pressing and holding the
M key. Then, we have to select the 3D model by clicking with the left mouse
button on the small icon that appears in each of the 3D models. Now that we
have the 3D model selected, drag and press the Alt key, as shown in the
following screenshot:
