Sharing Files
You can also send files of any type and size to your Skype contacts. To send a file, select a
contact, then tap the + icon at the upper right corner of the screen. Select Send File. You'll
then be asked to choose the app that you want to use to select the file.
Note that the recipient will be asked whether to accept the file. If they decline, then sending
will fail.
You can also send files during voice and video calls by tapping the + icon at the bottom of
the screen.
Calling Cell Phones and Landlines
You can use Skype to call cellular phones and landline numbers by either paying as you
go, by the minute, or by paying for a subscription. If you only call occasionally, paying by
the minute is the better option. However, if you make a lot of calls to the same countries or
regions, a monthly subscription is cheaper.
For example, as of this writing, calls to the 48 United States phones cost 2.3 cents per
minute plus a 4.9 cent connection charge per call. In contrast, by subscribing, you can make
unlimited calls to the 48 United States and Canada for $2.99 per month. So if you call for
more than 130 minutes per month, the subscription is cheaper.
Pay as you go rates vary greatly by country and even within a country, depending on the
phone service that owns the number you're calling. If you do a lot of worldwide calling
to cell phones and landlines, you may want to consider an unlimited world subscription,
which is currently $13.99 per month.
Note that you can call landline phones in over 60 countries at present. The list of countries
where you can call cell phones is much smaller- currently the United States, Canada, Un-
ited Kingdom, China, Hong Kong, Guam, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and Thailand.
Setting Your Status
Skype automatically changes your status to Online when you start Skype and to Offline
when you exit Skype or turn the device off. If you haven't been active on your tablet for 5
minutes, Skype will set your status to Away.
