In-Depth Information
Make Video Calls with Skype
Skype ( http://bit.ly/18Krm1Q ) lets you do free instant messaging, voice, and video calls
with any other Skype user as long as you're both on the Internet. You can also call cell
phones and landlines and message cell phones at low cost. And you can do group conferen-
ce calls- free between Skype devices, and for a per-minute charge if landlines or cell phone
are in the conference. All you need is a free Skype account, and you can sign up using the
Skype app on your device or at skype.com on your computer.
For a monthly fee, you can upgrade to a premium account, which adds group video calls,
group screen sharing, removes ads, lets you access live chat customer support, and make un-
limited calls to landlines or cell phones in a country or region of your choice.
As Skype warns you when you set up your account, you should not use Skype to make emer-
gency calls. Skype is not set up to make calls to emergency numbers such as 911. Always
use a cell phone or landline for emergency calls.
Setting up a Skype Account
When you start Skype for the first time, you'll see the sign in screen. To set up a new account,
tap “Create a Skype account”. After agreeing to the Terms of Use, you're taken to the “Create
account” screen. Enter your name, Skype name, password, email, and phone number with
country code.
If your chosen Skype name is available, your account will be created. Otherwise, you'll be
shown a list of alternatives and asked to either cancel or choose one of the alternatives.
Calling a Skype User
Skype opens to your contact list. To call another Skype user, you'll need their Skype user
name. If you don't know the user name, you can tap the Search icon to look it up in your
contacts or in the Skype Directory.
