Connecting to the Internet
Many things you do on your phone or tablet require an Internet connection. If you have ac-
cess to Wi-Fi, use it, as it's generally faster than LTE and avoids using up your data allow-
ance.
Airplane Mode
On the other hand, you can greatly extend battery life by turning wireless (Wi-Fi and LTE)
off when you don't need an Internet connection. This is especially effective in rural and
fringe areas where your phone or tablet automatically boosts its wireless power while trying
to stay connected. The easiest way to turn wireless off is to swipe down from the top of the
screen with two fingers to show Quick Settings, then turn Airplane Mode on by tapping its
icon. This turns off all the power-hungry transmitters in your device, including Bluetooth.
You should also turn on Airplane Mode on aircraft when directed by the flight crew.
