In-Depth Information
Lock screen. Swipe up on the padlock to unlock, and swipe left on the camera icon to start
the camera app without unlocking the device
Sleep Mode
Don't confuse screen locking with sleep mode. The screen automatically turns off after a
set time passes without any screen touches or tablet motion. The default is one minute but
you can change this in Settings, Device, Display.
If you haven't enabled screen locking, pressing the power button wakes up the device on
the last screen you were using.
Screen Lock
Screen locking options are found under Settings, Personal, Security, Screen Security. There
are five options for locking the screen.
None
This option leaves the device totally open. As described above, the device returns to the
screen you were on as soon as you press the power button to wake it from sleep mode. Only
use this option in a secure environment where no one else has access to your tablet, such as
a work place.
Slide
With this option set, the device wakes to a padlock icon, which you have to swipe to the
right to return to the last open screen. Slide only prevents accidental screen touches and
doesn't add any security.
Pattern
With Pattern unlock, the lock screen shows a grid of nine dots, and you draw a pattern
through the dots to unlock the screen. During setup, you draw the pattern twice to confirm.
For the best security, make the pattern complex and uncheck the option to make the pattern
visible. If the pattern is visible, someone looking at your screen can see the pattern.
