Voice Notes
Smart Voice Recorder
Smart Voice Recorder ( http://bit.ly/1hmAv7g ) turns your phone or tablet into a sophistic-
ated digital recorder for taking voice notes. All the expected controls for recording, paus-
ing, and playback are present, as well as settings for skipping silence and adjusting mi-
crophone sensitivity. Recordings can be shared via email and social networks, and can be
sideloaded to your computer.
Doing Research
Aside from the access to the Internet you have through Chrome and other web browsers,
there are also specialized apps which can make research a lot easier.
Wikipedia
Wikipedia, the online, user-written encyclopedia that is rapidly becoming an important re-
search resource, has its own free app ( http://bit.ly/1hQtfhG ) . This allows you to go directly
to the encyclopedia and enter a search term. Of course, you can still use a web browser,
which lets you open the desktop site rather than the default mobile site.
Pocket
Pocket ( http://bit.ly/1c3i3JE ), formerly Read It Later, lets you clip a web article, image, or
video and save it for later viewing offline. You can log into Pocket ( getpocket.com ) on your
desktop browser and read or watch your saved items, or open the Pocket app and see your
saved items. Pocket formats text into a very pleasing and easy to read magazine format and
gets rid of extraneous graphics and ads.
