Satellite status screen in GPS Essentials
c:geo
c:geo ( http://bit.ly/1hPGWNX ) is for geocaching- the sport of finding, logging, and placing
small hidden caches. Geocaching has exploded worldwide and there are millions of caches.
For more information on the sport, check these websites: geocaching.com and opencach-
ing.com . c:geo uses geocache data from geocaching.com , the original and still the largest
geocaching website.
c:geo displays a live map of nearby geocaches, automatically centered on your location.
You can pan and zoom the map, and select from Google map and satellite views, as well as
open source maps such as OSM Mapnik and Cyclemap. You can save maps and caches for
viewing offline, an especially valuable feature for owners of Wi-Fi only tablets.
Other screens let you see a list of nearby caches, stored caches, and search for caches by
coordinates, address, geo code (each geocache in the world has a unique 6-character code
name), keyword, user name, and owner name. You can also set a conventional destination
and navigate to it. And you can filter caches shown by logged and cache type.
Once you've chosen a cache, you can use c:geo to navigate to it and log your visit if you
find it.
Don't forget to store cache and map data on your device before heading out on the hunt,
because you won't be connected to the map and geocache servers once you're out of range
of Wi-Fi. Even owners of LTE tablets and phones may find themselves out of range in rural
areas.
Another way to use c:geo is to upload geocache data to a dedicated handheld GPS receiver.
You can export single geocaches or lists of geocaches as GPX files and send them to file
sharing services such as Dropbox or email them as attachments. Then connect your GPS
receiver to your computer and transfer the GPX file to the device.
