Reading Kindle Books
As an example of how the Kindle app works, here's how you read a book. You can open a
book from the Carousel if you read it recently, or from the Menu if not. To see a complete
list of your books, tap the Menu icon, then Books. Tap any book to open it. If the book is
not on your device, it will download from the Amazon Cloud as long as you have a Wi-Fi
or LTE connection.
Books open full screen by default. To turn pages, tap the left or right edges of the screen,
or swipe left or right. Most books show the title at the top of the page and your reading
progress at the bottom.
Tap in the middle of the screen to show the Menu bar at the top and the Progress bar at the
bottom. To leave the book and return to the Books library, tap the Back icon at the upper
left corner. Tap the Aa icon to change font size, margin size, line spacing, screen color, and
brightness. (If automatic brightness has been set in the device settings, this setting will be
disabled. To turn off automatic brightness, swipe down from the upper right corner of the
screen to show the settings menu, then tap Brightness. Move the slider to disable automatic
brightness. Now you can set brightness from the Kindle Aa pop-up.)
You can search the current book by tapping the Search icon and entering a search term with
the virtual keyboard. Tap any item to jump to the page. Tap the back icon at the very bot-
tom of the screen to return to the previous page.
While reading, you can tap the center of the screen and then the Menu icon at the upper
right to access the Kindle Store, go to the table of contents and locations in the book, view
your notes and marks, sync to the furthest page read, add a bookmark, and share your pro-
gress with others.
Bookmarks
To bookmark any page, tap the upper right corner. A blue bookmark appears. To remove a
bookmark, tap the book mark.
To view your bookmarks, tap the center of the screen, then tap the Menu icon at the upper
right, and select View your notes and marks. Tap any item to jump to that page. To return
to your previous location, tap the back icon at the very bottom of the screen.
