Black and yellow taxis, a familar sight in Buenos Aires
Taxis and Remises
There are many cabs on the
streets of Buenos Aires and
it is usually easy to find one at
any time. Taxis are painted
black and yellow and run on
meters; remises , which are
licensed minicabs, look like
any other private car. For safety
reasons, it is recommended
that visitors use either a radio
taxi or a remis . If a tourist must
hail a taxi, it is advisable to
make sure that the vehicle is
marked with a company name
and serial number and that
the red libre light in the front
window is on. A fee must be
agreed before setting off
when using remises , and there
may be an AR$5 fee for booking
one by phone. On no account
will a driver change anything
over a AR$20 peso note, unless
agreed upon in advance; always
check the change. Some of the
popular remises include Amistax
and Radio Taxi Premium . Taxis
are not the quickest option
during rush hours.
