The Passion of Terray
E VEN T ERRAY, whose account of Annapurna in Conquistadors for the most part agrees
with Herzog's, was irked at the public response to the expedition:
Deliberately ignoring anything so difficult to understand as teamwork, the papers proceeded
to transform Herzog into a national hero, concentrating all their attention on him as a kind
of fabulous Big White Chief. The rest of the expedition, including Lachenal, were relegated
to the position of mere accessories.
