Wildlife on the border
LAKE CHAMPLAIN, 1767
This is the top part of a map that shows an area on the border between the provinces of Que-
bec, New York and Vermont. The boundary of the first two is shown by a solid line divid-
ing 'G' and 'H' at top right, while that between the latter two runs through the left side of
Lake Champlain. A strategic waterway in a rugged land without viable roads, the lake and its
tributaries gave access to the interior, and passage from the northeast to the Hudson River in
