ALL THAT HE POSSESSED: An inventory taken at Grenvill Collins' house in Deptford (convenient
for the dockyard) after he had died in March 1694 lists his worldly goods, including 'Pictures, prints &
mappes' valued at twelve pounds. They graced the Great Dining Room, among furniture, carpets,
plate, a looking-glass, pistols and carbines [short muskets]. Was Grenvill Collins' ships' log perhaps
one of the 'books' listed with Collins' mathematical instruments - probably for survey work on the
Coasting Pilot - kept with a 'close stoole' in a 'dark closet'?
