the few genuine colonial-house hotels still in ope ratio in - if you do decide to stay, it's worth
paying a little extra for a room in the main house. $75
Royal Green Hotel 17 Ziwaka St 085 28422. Impeccable standard rooms come with
fresh new linen, satellite TV and wi-fi, free bottled water and hot drinks, making this hotel
excellent value for money, especially given the high prices elsewhere in Pyin Oo Lw in. For
$45 you get a balcony and bathtub, while the $55 corner rooms are beautiful and airy. $35

The standard rooms are arranged in ageing bungalows, while the more expensive options

EATING
Club Terrace 25 Club Rd 085 23311. Housed in an attractive red-brick building near
the golf club, this classy restaurant offers a pretty patio and excellent service. The Thai
and Chinese food (most dishes around K4500) is decent, and there are a few Burmese and
Western options available, but the surroundings are the main attraction. Daily 10am-10pm.

life as a rest stop on the Mandalay-Lashio road, 12km out of Pyin Oo Lwin towards Lash-
io, serving up fresh juice, noodles and ice cream to hungry travellers. While there are two
branchesinthecentreoftown,theoriginalroadsidestoreisthenicest,withapettingzooand
pavilions scattered around the strawberry fields. All branches daily 7am-9pm.
Feel Off Nandar Rd 085 22083. The kitchen here copes surprisingly well with the res-
taurant's ridiculously extensive menus (plural), which cover everything from sushi to ham-
burgers and hotpot. There's a pretty lakeside deck with views towards the Kandawgyi Gar-
dens, and it's popular with visitors and locals alike. California rolls cost K4000, fried rice
from K3000, and there's a good range of cakes available too. Daily 9.30am-9.30pm.
Golden Triangle Mandalay-Lashio Rd 085 24288. With Western food, pastries, locally
grown coffee and fast wi-fi, what foreign-owned Golden Triangle lacks in atmosphere it
makes up for with familiar comforts. Coffee from K1800, breakfast dishes from K1500.
