hours (K8000 return) - a lot of time to kill , though quite pleasant if you approach things in
the right mind; note that these run Jan-April only.
On a day-trip It's also possible to combine Mingun with Sagaing and other destinations on
a motorbike or taxi day-trip, though this will add two hours of travel to the day, and a fair bit
more to the price - though taking the boat is way more fun, on rented transport you may get
to see the place without the passengers disgorged by the ferry.
EATING
The village has a few cute places to eat and drink. There are a couple of touristy ones just
northoftheMingunPagoda,butforamoreauthenticallylocalexperience,pushonnorthinto
the small clutch of houses just beyond Hsinbyume Paya.
KaungkinTar NorthofHsinbyumePaya. Pleasantteahousenearthesightsjustatthestartof
the main village, and quite a pretty place with its mint-green stools and tan-coloured tables.
A cup of tea will cost you K200. Daily 4am-9pm.
Point Behind Settaya Paya. Good for a small meal, this lazy place has a river view, and can
rustle up simple dishes such as omelette with chicken meat (K2500). They also sell beer
(K700). Daily 8am-10pm.
