border crossing between Muse in northern Shan State and Ruili in
China's Yunnan province is nominally open to foreigners, but it's necessary to hold a permit
and to be part of an officially sanctioned tour in order to either enter or leave Myanmar.
Overland from India, Laos and Bangladesh
The crossing between Moreh in

and Tamu in Sagaing Division is theoretically open to
foreigners, but onerous
permit requirements
- which (if you're lucky) take several months
to negotiate - mean that it is not a feasible route.
