pollution this is not really a bad thing. You'll pay K500 for a very large, very milky cup of
the local brew. Daily 24hr.
DRINKING
Don't expect nightclubs (or, indeed, anything with a dancefloor), but Mandalay does have its

everyeveningthisopen-airbaratopthe Ayarwaddy River View Hotel givesoutfreecocktails
to guests and non-guests alike. The only condition is that you have to be here during sun-
set hours, with gorgeous views out over the river… what a pity. Even if greedy freeloaders
prompt the hotel to retract this generous offer, it's a good place with drinks that aren't too
pricey at all, given the location (cocktails K6000, beer K3000, or K2000 for a can of pop).
Daily 5.30-10pm.

Mann 83rd St, between 25th and 26th sts 02 66025; map . Entirely devoid of tour
groups and also popular with locals, this bar feels almost like Myanmar “back in the day”,
when almost every traveller to the country was a worldly, backpackery type. The place is full
each and every night thanks to cheap booze (beers K1500, small bottles of rum K700) and a
raucous atmosphere; given the lack of table space most nights, you're almost guaranteed to

and the food terrible; the scent of rat poison out back on the way to the toilets - plus some
curious clangs, bangs and squeaks from the kitchen area - should be enough to put you off.
Drink here for sure; dine somewhere else. Daily 9am-10pm.
