China and Qatar Airways also operate daily flights from London to their airport hubs, with
several direct flights on to Yangon each week.
Other airlines that fly to Bangkok or Singapore with a stop en route include Air France,
Cathay Pacific, Emirates, Jet Airways, KLM and Lufthansa. If you're travelling to Myanmar
from another UK airport or from the Republic of Ireland you will need to fly to London
Heathrow or another hub city first.
From the UK, the lowest available return fares to Yangon, changing planes in Bangkok, KL
or Singapore, start around £500.
Flights from the US and Canada
When flying to Myanmar from US and Canadian cities on the east coast , your route might
see you transiting through Europe or via Asia, with the latter often being more direct, as well
asslightly cheaper.ThereareregularflightsfromNewYork,Chicago andTorontotoBeijing
on Air China, to Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific, Seoul on Asiana and Korean Air and Tokyo
on ANA and JAL, with direct flights from all of these cities to Yangon. Chicago and New
York are also served by daily flights to Doha on Qatar Airways, from where you could take
one of the three weekly flights to Yangon. Return fares start from $1300 (Can$1420), and
flight times are all upwards of 20hr.
Major Asian airports are also the most convenient transit points between the west coast
and Myanmar. There are direct flights from Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Van-
couver to Beijing, Hong Kong, Seoul, Tokyo and Taipei (the latter on China Airlines), with
direct flights from all of these Asian hubs to Yangon. Return tickets start at around $1100
(Can$1200), and the shortest flights take around 18hr, including time spent in transit.
Flights from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa
When travelling to Myanmar from the southern hemisphere, Bangkok , Singapore and Ku-
ala Lumpur are the most convenient places to transfer onto a flight to Yangon. From Aus-
tralia,KualaLumpuristypicallythecheapestdestinationofthethree,withdirectflightsfrom
Adelaide, Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth starting from just Aus$400 return, thanks
to the presence of budget carriers (including Jetstar, Scoot and Tigerair) on various routes,
along with full-price airlines. There are also daily direct flights from Brisbane, Melbourne,
Perth and Sydney to Singapore (from Aus$470) and Bangkok (from Aus$700).
Thai Airways operates several flights from Auckland (from NZ$1700) and Johannesburg
(from ZAR8500) to Bangkok each week. Singapore Airlines flies direct to Singapore from
Auckland and Christchurch (from NZ$1650) and Johannesburg (ZAR9250). And Malaysia
Airlines operates daily flights from Auckland (from NZ$1385) to Kuala Lumpur. All prices
