Sam Yweat Kyaing Lan Rd 084 21235. Surprisingly pleasant place, at least once you're
past the motorbikes in the open-air reception area. These are the only rooms in town which

EATING AND DRINKING
If you think that Kengtung's accommodation options are uninspiring, just wait until you try
finding a decent place to eat. Some solace can be found in the many snack-shacks around
the market, and those leading down to the lake from Mong Yang Rd. At night, you could
try to track down one of the town's many barbecue-stick places for some cheap, tasty snacks
(K100-200 each); there's one on the east shore of the lake, near the corner where the road
comes down.
Azure East side of lake. Tiny place across the small road from the lakeshore, selling tasty
draught beer (K1000 per glass, K4000 for a pitcher). You could always ask to plonk your
plastic chair in the grassy area by the lake. Daily 10am-9pm.
Don't Forget East side of lake 094 4100 6438. An odd, cutesey little place popular with
young couples or couples-to-be. Their food is OK (mains K1500-3000), though given the

Daily 10am-11pm.
Golden Banyan Zaydan Loang Rd 084 21421. Not great, though somehow still the most
reliable place to eat in town. They've a wide range of Chinese dishes; try the hot and sour
fish soup (K4000), fried aubergine (K2500), fried noodles (K2000) or tofu dishes (K3000).
As long as the weather agrees, it's most pleasant to eat outside under the banyan tree - not a
garden, sadly, but a sort of concrete shelf. Daily 10am-9pm.
Star Rain Club Airport Rd. 2km east of the centre, this nightclub is a decidedly surprising

many such venues; secondly, though not officially a gay venue, it's certainly gay-friendly,
and when cavorting with its (usually very young, mostly male) crowd it can feel more like
you're in Thailand than Myanmar. Daily 8-11pm.
