Golden Cave Shwe Oo Min Rd, southwest of the lake 081 66166, goldencave-
hotel.com . The town's mid-range choice, with OK rooms, OK-ish service, and an OK-ish
breakfast. The pleasant compound that t he p lace calls home is located within walking dis-
tance of the caves - a definite plus-point. $40
Inle Inn Maha Bandoola Rd, off east side of lake 081 21347, pindayainleinn.com .
By far the most pleasant place to stay in town, set in a complex that's apparently attempting
to imitate an “ethnic” village. Choose from stilted bamboo huts, or pricier two-level chalets;
the former have huge beds and surprisingly large bathrooms, while the latter also have a fire-
pla ce in th eir su ite-like layout. A gym, spa and decent restaurant round out the picture. Hut
$75 , chalet $120
Myit Phyar Zaw Gyi Zaytan Qtr, on north side of lake 081 66403. This dingy place is
about as cheap as you're going to get in Pindaya. Rooms are way overpriced, though some
have a lake view, and all have small tellies and d ece nt beds. The real bonus here is for single
travellers, since they'll give you a room for $15. $30
EATING AND DRINKING
Dagon Shwe Oo Min Rd, off northwest corner of lake. Either a restaurant or a beer station,
depending upon whether you're looking at the signboard or the menu, but it functions pretty
well in both regards. As well as selling draught beer (K700), it's one of the town's more reli-
ableplacesforfood,withsimpledishessuchasfriedrice(K1500)ornoodlesoup(K1500).If
you're in luck, you may spot a few customers wearing ethnic headdresses. Daily 7am-10pm.
Green Tea Shwe Oo Min Rd, on west side of lake 081 66344. Come lunchtime, this
lakeside venue is teeming with tour groups descending for post-cave luncheon - no real sur-
prise, since this is by far the best place to eat in town. Their wide-ranging menu contains
pasta, sandwiches and the like if you're missing Western food, though for something more
interesting have a crack at local fare such as the sweet pumpkin soup with shallots (K1800),
the filling veggie curry (K2400), or Danu-style mashed rice with potato and fish (K1800).
Daily 9am-9pm.
Happy Cafe Shwe Oo Min Rd, on west side of lake 093 623 3738. Not the best-looking
teahouse in town (those are a little further north), though the only one with an English sign
and a lake view. The tea's OK (K300), and in contrast to most such places across the land, it
gets a surprisingly high amount of female custom. Daily 6am-5.30pm.
