Nyaung U, with accommodation in spacious, old-fashioned bungalows spread around pleas-
ant gardens complete with a good-sized (albeit very shallow) pool. Rooms are comfort abl e
but so dated they're almost retro. A passable choice, although rates are on the high side. $65
Yar Kinn Tha Hotel Anawrahta Rd, at Thiripyitsaya 4 St 061 60051, yarkinnthahotel-
bagan.com ; map . Simple, modern hotel in a good location at the foot of Thiripyitsaya 4 St.
Cheaper rooms are simple wood-panelled affairs, but decent value given the location and
price; alternatively, there are also larger and pricier (although rather bare) bungalows set
around the attra ctiv e gardens to the rear ($65). The excellent rooftop La Terrasse restaurant
is a major plus. $35

of good-looking brick buildings, this recently opened place is Nyaung U's most stylish hotel
- and is very reasonably priced. Standard rooms are white, bright, neat and clean; deluxe
rooms ($15 e xtr a) come with a bit more style and chic. A small pool and gardens complete
the package. $70
WET KYI INN

Wet Kyi Inn's more appealing options, at a reasonable price, with brig ht a nd comfortable (if
slightly bare) whitewashed, parquet-floored rooms. A pool is planned. $50
Winner Guesthouse Main Rd 061 61069; map . The best of Wet Kyi Inn's modest array
of budget options. Cheaper rooms are bare but clean, sharing tolerable communal bathrooms
with hot water. Smarter en-suite rooms ($30) are significantly brighter and more appealing,
if you don't mind t he s trange metal beds, which look like they're been pilfered from a local
intensive care unit. $20
