Magwe
Sprawling along the east bank of the Ayeyarwady some 240km north of Pyay and 175km
south of Bagan, MAGWE (or “Magway” as it's often spelt) is a busy provincial centre and

Bagan and Pyay with your own vehicle you might want to stop for an hour to have a look
around the dusty market and the landmark Mya Tha Lun (“Jade Throne”) pagoda, perched
on a hilltop north of the centre. The only reason you might end up overnighting in Magwe is
if you're heading by bus along the little-travelled (at least by foreigners) overland route from
Pyay or Bagan to Sittwe or Mrauk U, in which case you'll most likely have to change buses
here.
