EATING
Seafood so fresh it practically jumps out of the bucket is the main draw at Ngapali, as else-
where along the coast. There are plenty of
restaurants
along the main road, mostly small,
family-run affairs, although without much to distinguish one from another. Alternatively, try
the cluster of impromptu beach-bar shacks and little wooden cafés strung out on the beach
between the
Memento Resort
and
Thande
hotel - particularly pretty after dark.
Excellence
Lin Thar Village 043 42249.
Big, attractive wooden pavilion restaurant with
friendly service and a typical Ngapali menu focusing on fish, mainly Burmese style, along
with a few Thai-style dishes plus a few token Western options (mains around K3000). The
coconut fish curry is a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
Daily 7am-10pm.
Htay Htay's Kitchen
Lin Thar Village 043 42081.
A bit more stylish than other places
hereabouts, complete with romantically moody lighting and flowers on tables. The seafood-
leaning menu features the usual Thai and Chinese dishes along with a good selection of
Burmese options ranging from smoked-fish soup through to fishball salad with lemon leaves
and assorted coconut-flavoured curries. Mains K3000-4000.
Daily 8am-10pm.
Pleasant View Restaurant
Mya Pyin Village 043 42251,
pvrngapali.com
.
Ngapali's
most appealing restaurant, set on a little rocky islet just offshore, connected to the beach
by a short wooden bridge (sometimes involving wading through a few centimetres of water
when the tide is coming in, while a free boat is provided when the water gets sufficiently
high). Food is a bit pricey (most mains K5500-8000) but generally good, featuring a mix of
Burmese, Thai, Chinese and Western (fish and seafood only).
Daily 9am-9pm.
