EATING
As at neighbouring Chaung Tha, restuarants in Ngwe Saung major in seafood, offering
largely generic menus featuring the same dishes, mainly prepared in pseudo-Chinese style
(sweet and sour, hot and spicy, and so on), along with a couple of Burmese curry-style
variations. What's actually available will depend on what the local fishermen have recently
hauled in - you might ask to have a look in the kitchen to see what's in stock, and to check
how fresh it is.
Golden Myanmar Restaurant Village 042 40241. This lively local restaurant is usually
one of the village's most enjoyable places to hang out over a meal or beer, with decent
food and cheery service. The menu features a good range of seafood and meat dishes (mains
around K4500) plus cheaper noodles and salads. Daily 6am-9/10pm.
Jasmine Seafood Restaurant Village 042 40262. Generic menu of seafood and meat
mains, although a fraction pricier than elsewhere (mains mostly K3500), well prepared and
served in generous portions. The crispy fish in orange sauce is good and something a bit dif-
ferent, and they also dish up some good salads including seaweed, seafood, papaya and jelly
noodles. Daily 7am-9pm.
RoyalFlower Village 04240309. Oneofthevillage'smostpopularhangoutsamongvisit-
ing Westerners thanks to its cooler-than-average decor and ambience. Mains (mostly K4000)
feature all the old seafood and meat favourites in generic Chinese style, with a pinch of Thai.
Welcoming service, although the occasional live music acts can seriously mess with your di-
gestion. Daily 7am-10pm.
