ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE: YANGON
BY PLANE
Yangon's airport ( ygnia.com ) is around 15km north of downtown Yangon, with separate
domestic and international terminals right next door to one another. You'll find a couple of
ATMs as you exit the building, plus several moneychangers offering identical rates.
Transport to/from the city A taxi into town costs a fixed K7000 if booked through the taxi
counter in the international terminal, or K8000 at the domestic terminal; alternatively, you
can probably negotiate a slightly cheaper fare with one of the freelance drivers outside. The
journeytodowntownusuallytakesaround45min,althoughitcanbeconsiderablylongerdur-
ing rush hours. Bus #51 (K200; 1-2 hourly; 1hr) runs into downtown; the stop is close to the
terminals - turn left out of the airport building and head along the road outside (600m from
the international terminal, 250m from the domestic terminal) and look for the bus stop where
the road curves around. Alternatively, more frequent services can be found by turning right
out of the international terminal; walk down the airport approach road for 1.3km to reach the
junction with Pyay Rd, take a right and then cross the road to catch a southbound bus. Buses
back to the airport (K200; 1-2 hourly; 1hr) leave from one block south of Sule Paya.
