particular, were found to be ideally suited, both in terms of maturity and in
degree of natural fracturing (see Figure 2). During the late 1970s, profit made
from gas extraction was subject to both Corporation Tax and Petroleum
Revenue Tax, meaning that production was nowhere near economic.
