I use this relational perspective to examine historical and contemporary
practices of stormwater management in Austin and Seattle. The struggles
with urban runoff in these cities highlight the limitations of attempts to
control nature and provide opportunities of conceiving of urban nature
in different ways as well as adopting new modes of design practice that
can reconfi gure cities to refl ect their relational status.
