of Metro would signal a turning point for the city and pave the way for
new conceptions of human/nature relations beginning in the 1970s. In the
next chapter, I examine how government and nongovernment actors have
shaped urban water fl ows in Seattle in the last four decades, building upon
the Promethean foundation created by Thomson and his successors while
developing new interpretations of urban nature.
