MODERATE
Brennecke's Beach Broiler AMERICAN/SEAFOOD Cheerful petunias
in window boxes and second-floor views of Poipu Beach are pleasing touches at
this seafood-burger house, a terrific family restaurant. The view alone is worth
the price, but it helps that the best hamburgers on the south shore are served
here, as well as excellent vegetarian selections. It's so casual that you and the kids
can drop in before or after the beach and dine on nachos and peppers, fresh-fish
sandwiches, kiawe-broiled fish and kabobs, prime rib, pasta, build-your-own
gourmet burgers, and the salad bar.

Keoki's Paradise STEAK/SEAFOOD Keoki's Paradise is sprawling and
lively, your kids will be welcome and catered to (kids' menu, crayons to enter-
tain them, and waitstaff to joke with them). Lunch favorites include a fresh ahi
sandwich, fresh-fish tacos, Thai shrimp sticks, and chicken Caesar salad—all
good and affordable. In the evenings, regulars tout the fresh fish crusted in
lemongrass, basil, and breadcrumbs. When it's time for dessert, the original
Hula pie from Kimo's in Lahaina is an ever-sinful presence. The cafe in the bar
area serves lighter fare and features live Hawaiian music on Thursday and Friday
nights and Sunday afternoon.

Pomodoro ITALIAN Pomodoro is the Italian magnet of the west side, a
small, casual, and intimate second-floor dining room with a bar, potted plants,
soft lighting, and pleasing Italian music. It's a warm, welcoming place for fami-
lies, where Hawaiian hospitality meets European flavors: homemade garlic
focaccia, homemade mozzarella, chicken saltimbocca, and homemade pastas
(cannelloni, manicotti, and excellent lasagna, the house specialty). Whether you
order the veal, chicken, scampi, calamari, or very fresh organic green salads,
you'll appreciate the wonderful home-style flavor and the polite, efficient
servers, and the kids will be happy with spaghetti and meatballs.

INEXPENSIVE
Brick Oven Pizza PIZZA A Kalaheo fixture for more than 25 years, Brick
Oven is the quintessential mom-and-pop business, serving pizza cooked directly
on the brick hearth, brushed with garlic butter, and topped with real cheeses and
long-simmering sauces. This is the real thing! You have a choice of whole-wheat
or white crust, plus many toppings. The seafood-style pizza-bread sandwiches
are big at lunch, and the “Super Pizza” with everything on it—that's amore. No
kids' menu, but they'll be too busy with the family pizza. Plus, they give the kids
pizza dough to play with while the pizza is being cooked.
