Hyatt Regency Maui Kids will love it here—it's Hawaii's version of
Disneyland, with an assortment of imaginative touches including a collection of
exotic species and nine waterfalls. This huge place covers some 40 acres; even if
you don't stay here, you might want to walk through the expansive tree-filled
atrium and the parklike grounds. The half-acre outdoor pool has a 150-foot lava
tube slide, a bar under the falls, a lava tube/cave, and a swinging rope bridge.
There's even a children-only pool (and daily belly-flop contests) with its own
beach, tide pools, and fountains.
Families appreciate the 50% discount on the price of a second room. (Request
a Family Room Plan, where you can get one room with a king bed connecting
to a room with two double beds or a queen bed.) Hyatt's other family-friendly
features include complimentary cribs and rollaway beds, and hot chocolate
packets next to the in-room coffeemaker. If your kids are at that age where every-
thing they wear gets dirty immediately, then ask for a room in the Lahania
Tower, where there are washers and dryers on the bottom floor.
Parents also will like the activities of Camp Hyatt, a year-round program that
accepts 5- to 12-year-olds. Every day from 9am to 3pm it offers a range of activ-
ities from “Olympic Games” to a scavenger hunt. The cost is $60 for a full day
(includes lunch, snacks, and a Camp Hyatt T-shirt) and $35 for a half-day.
There's also a game room for kids, with video games, a pool table, Ping Pong,
and an air hockey table. All of the on-site restaurants have special keiki (child)
menus (where $7 is the top price); or if they want to order from the “big” menu,
children ages 4 to 12 get 50% off on some items. Kids ages 3 and under eat free.
Spa lovers will be thrilled with the oceanfront spa, the Spa Moana, offering
everything from a huge menu of massages, body treatments, and therapies to
yoga classes. They also feature kid-friendly treatments like the M&M manicure,
children's yoga classes, movie-star makeovers, and “Glow Girl” facials.
